HOW TO SEW A SLEEVE ON A QUILT

Cut fabric to make a strip 9" tall and the same width as the quilt.

Fold under short edges 1/4" two times. Press. Sew close to the folded edge.

Now fold the strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, aligning its raw edges and press. Sew the raw edges together with a 1/4" " seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open.

Place the open seam against the quilt's back. Center and pin the top edge of the tube to the back of the quilt just below the binding.

Hand sew the top edge of the tube to the quilt backing.

Smooth the sleeve downward flat on the quilt back, then make a 1/2" fold upward along its bottom length to create a pleat. Keeping the pleat in place pin the sleeve bottom to the quilt.

Hand stitch the lower edge of the sleeve to the quilt. The sleeve will pooch out a bit to allow space for a hanging rod.

Hand stitch sides of the sleeve to the quilt keeping the front sides free to open for the hanging rod.
