Title:Bella Monde Quilt measures approx. 73" x 73" This striking quilt was a nationally recognized juried finalist in the Group Category at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2007. It is the creation of a group of talented ladies in a bee who call themselves "Nellie's Needlers". This quilt combines machine piecing and applique methods and took over 525 hours to complete plus the time to quilt a large work such as this. The fabric alone in a quilt of this size and quality would cost more than $500.00. When asked to comment on their project, the ladies claimed to love a challenge. When they all got together it was an experiment in co-operation to pick the colors. Somehow 13 opinionated women with very different tastes came to a consensus and this is the impressive result. The International Quilt Festival receives approximately 900 entries every year from all over the world for their judged event. These must be whittled down to a mere 300 to make it into the show. This quilt is a prime example of the quality it takes to be included in this elite group. Maker: Nellie's Needlers Bee |
